A certified NRVIA RV inspector has completed the training and testing to inspect all types of RVs and are required to complete many hours of continuing education each year to keep their certification. All NRVIA RV inspectors follow the same Standards of Practice to keep inspection reports uniform on what is inspected and follow the Code of Ethics so inspections reports are impartial, professional and fair.

We do carry $1,000,000 of commercial liability insurance to protect all parties involved in an RV inspection. The RV industry does not have any requirement for inspectors to have a license to operate. We do have certificates of completed courses and are required to complete many hours of continuing education per year to keep our NRVIA certification.

The amount of time I spend on site with the RV varies depending on the type of inspection and type of the RV. Motorized RVs generally take longer than towables. Most inspections take from 5 to 10 hours to complete.

All reports will be finished and ready for the customer to view by the end of the following day after the inspection. Within 12 hours from completion of inspection.

No, you do not need to be there on inspection day, however you may be there if you wish. All we ask is that you give us the space to do the job we are hired to do. Most of the time our clients are not present during the inspection.

The inspection report and its contents are made available by North Star RV Inspections only to the purchaser of the RV inspection. As the buyer, you can share the report with anyone you wish to show it too. 

RVs today are being manufactured as fast as possible to try and meet high consumer demand. As a result, many RVs are being shipped to dealers unfinished and the dealers are having to finish the build. A 3rd-party inspection very often uncovers problems that are missed during the pre-delivery inspection.

There are several things can affect the scheduling of an RV inspection. Inspector availability, seller availability, inclement weather, travel, etc. Many times an inspection can be scheduled in less than 48 hours, or as long as weeks, depending your needs.  Please contact us to schedule an inspection or discuss an inspection date.

Yes and No. To do a complete inspection on the plumbing system, it does need to be de-winterized. If de-winterizing for an inspection is not an option for whatever reason, I can pressurize the the plumbing lines with RV anti-freeze, but some points of inspection like the water heater and on-board water pump will not be tested. Anything not tested will be noted on the inspection report with the reason why.

To provide you with a thorough, full RV inspection, the answer is yes. Often times the seller, whether it's a private party or dealer, cannot provide full hookups.

Electricity (shore power or onboard generator) and onboard battery hookups are a must.

Fresh water hookup to a city water connection with a pressure regulator is preferred. Filling the fresh water tank and using the onboard water pump will work. We can also pressurize the city water connection with an external tank and pump.

Having access to RV sewer connections allows the inspector to test gray and black tank gate valves.

Anything not inspected/tested because of hook ups not provided will be marked "NOT INSPECTED" on the report and stated why. Contact Us for inspection requirements.

No. We follow the NRVIA Code of Ethics that does not allow us to repair an RV that we inspected for one year after the inspection. This is a good thing because we do not try to find problems just so we can fix them.

Most buyers are often looking at the appearance and amenities of the RV to determine if it will meet their travel needs. The excitement of the RV buying process can lead the buyer to overlook the obvious and hidden condition of the RV. Most buyers do not climb on an RV roof and don't have the tools to perform a propane leak test. We carefully inspect each RV using our inspection software in logical order so that every component is inspected and tested. We have no financial interest; we are providing a truly unbiased inspection. Confirming what you believe to be true is a good thing. When the RV inspection is scheduled, you will receive an email through Home Gauge that will have your login user name and password for you to sign inspection agreement and documents.

When inspection is complete and the report is ready for you to view, you will receive another email notification and you use the same user and password.

Reports are in an HTML format online and are best viewed on a laptop or PC. The larger the screen the better. You will be able to enlarge the pictures and watch videos. Yes! Most RV dealers are very accommodating in having an independent inspection. Please ask your salesmen on what their policy is regarding an independent 3rd party RV inspections. North Star RV Inspections, LLC has proof of insurance and can be provided upon request. 

If you haven't already contact the RV salesperson at the RV dealership to ensure the RV will be setup and ready for the RV inspector to start at scheduled time.

Th RV inspector needs to have the mobile cell number of the contact person in case they run into any issues on the RV inspection day

Cash or credit cards are accepted. Credit card invoicing is done through PayPal. An email with a PayPal link with be sent and you can use your credit card to make the payment. A PayPal account is not required for this service. Invoices are required to be paid before the scheduled inspection day.

Think of a fluid analysis as a blood test for your tow vehicle or motorhome. Like a blood test, fluid analysis will give you a inside look of your engine and or generator. The RV inspector will pull a small amount of the fluid to be analized, then send it off to the lab. Fluid analysis can tell you about contaminates, if there are any metals present that would indicate wear, if the fluids are breaking down and much more.  It is like seeing inside your motor, transmission, radiator, generator and even Aqua Hot or Oasis systems. Fluid analysis can be added to your RV inspection for a minimal cost.

An RV inspector should not and can not answer that question.  The inspector provides an accurate RV inspection report that allows you, the RV buyer, to make an informed decision.

There are many reasons why an RV inspection is much more comprehensive than a house inspection. Your brick-and-mortar home does not experience the wear and tear your RV does because you are not driving it down the road at 60+ miles per hour; every component of the RV is subject to wear and tear. Also, an RV is more complex than a brick-and-mortar house because it has three electrical systems, two water systems, a hydraulic system (typically), a flexible structure, and a complex chassis that it depends on to move. Each of these need to be closely examined so that they do not leave you stranded and/or stuck with costly repairs.
